{"id":1027,"date":"2014-07-12T23:50:58","date_gmt":"2014-07-13T06:50:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=1027"},"modified":"2014-08-02T14:15:18","modified_gmt":"2014-08-02T21:15:18","slug":"week-one-a-hunger-for-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=1027","title":{"rendered":"Week One \u2013 A Hunger for God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Behold Your God<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Adult Sunday School class is about to begin a new series that is based on DVD\u2019s and the name of the series will be at the head of every lesson.\u00a0 It is not easy to transcribe an entire lesson, but I\u2019ll attempt to take notes and let you know the primary topics and main points in every message.\u00a0 From there, you will have to fill in the blanks.<\/p>\n<p>It will generally take two weeks to cover each DVD since there is the message, which is about 45 minutes, and there is a practical application, which will be covered the following week.\u00a0 I will make notes of some of the more memorial quotes and if this sounds interesting to you, you might do some research and find the series online.\u00a0 The primary instructor is John Snyder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Week One \u2013 A Hunger for God<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Week one begins with a biography about AW Tozer.\u00a0 Some of the high and low points of his life and a little about what drove him.\u00a0 There was also a story about the occasion that he wrote undoubtedly what turned out to be his most well known book: The Pursuit of God.\u00a0 The question was asked, what captivated Tozer\u2019s heart?\u00a0 The answer provided was the knowledge of God.\u00a0 Not false concepts about God but rather knowing God as He is revealed in the Bible.\u00a0 Accordingly, passion is not enough if you\u2019re wrong about whom God is.<\/p>\n<p>Snyder went on to make five main points in the first video:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The most significant thing about us is what we think about God. \u00a0What is our true view of God?<\/li>\n<li>Knowing God is the great jewel of Christianity.\u00a0 Really knowing God, we believe this is easy but that is most likely because our concept of the character of God is not according to who He really is.\u00a0 Eternal life is based on knowing God \u2013 we don\u2019t want to get this wrong.<\/li>\n<li>We live in a day when the truth about the pursuit of God has been replaced with other lesser things.\u00a0 We must refuse anything that aims to take God\u2019s place.<\/li>\n<li>Knowing God is costly.\u00a0 You have to lay everything on the table.\u00a0 God will reveal Himself to His child but only if He has full access.<\/li>\n<li>If we are to know God, we must avoid counterfeits. \u00a0\u00a0Counterfeits are cheap, they don\u2019t cost us anything. Counterfeits are manageable; we are in charge of them.\u00a0 Counterfeits are respectable but they leave a person unsatisfied.\u00a0 Some counterfeits are:\n<ol>\n<li>Hearsay &#8211; We think we know God through hearsay and second hand knowledge.\u00a0 Counterfeit.<\/li>\n<li>Textualism \u2013 we mistake an allegiance with a text as being equal to knowing God.\u00a0 We think if we can quote a certain author that will give the impression that we truly know God.\u00a0 Counterfeit.<\/li>\n<li>True Truths \u2013 truth no longer impacts our lives, it doesn\u2019t make a difference.\u00a0 We are too familiar with the common truths and because of that, there is no impact.
