{"id":3018,"date":"2020-04-01T15:46:45","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T22:46:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3018"},"modified":"2020-04-02T21:56:04","modified_gmt":"2020-04-03T04:56:04","slug":"hobart-herd-devotional-proverbs-1-4-1-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3018","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd Devotional &#8211; Proverbs 1 &#8211; 4-1-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Proverbs 1 &#8211;\n4-1-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; The Book of Proverbs is a book that challenges\nus to live in God\u2019s wisdom.&nbsp; Written by\nthe wisest man in scripture apart from God Himself, it is full of truth that\ncan lead us into a life of joy, peace and fellowship with God and man.&nbsp; The first 7 verses give us a theme and purpose\nfor the book ending with the purpose statement \u201cThe fear of the Lord is the\nbeginning of knowledge\u201d.&nbsp; The challenge\nis to listen and take instruction from those God places over us, vs. 8-9.&nbsp; Oh that we would listen and wear that \u201cgraceful\ngarland\u201d and pendent that comes from listening to wisdom.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; We are warned to not be enticed and tempted\nto throw our hat in with those who reject God\u2019s wisdom and choose sinful,\nrebellious, and harmful ways.&nbsp; It is so\ntempting to want to be with the popular people who stand out and whose \u201cfeet\nrun to evil\u201d.&nbsp; I am reminded of my youth\nwhen all I wanted was to be accepted and was willing to do most anything to fit\nin with the popular kids.&nbsp; So many times,\nI thought I could be happy if I just did the rebellious acts that would get me\nnoticed and loved.&nbsp; Oh I was noticed, but\nnot for the right reasons, and usually by those who would have to punish\nme.&nbsp; Praise the Lord for faithful parents\nwho always encouraged me in the wisdom of the Lord and His Word.&nbsp; Sometimes that encouragement took on the form\nof painful discipline, but the board of knowledge was applied to the seat of\nwisdom with love.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; The verse that stuck out to me the most is\nverse 23; \u201cIf you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you;\nI will make my words known to you\u201d.&nbsp; The\nfollowing verses remind me of the destruction that is waiting for those who do\nnot listen to the rebuke and reproof of the Lord, ending with a promise to\nthose who listen of security, ease and lack of dread.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Father, I know that I need Your wisdom in my\nlife.&nbsp; I have tried my own ways and the\nways of the foolish that leads to pain and misery.&nbsp; Forgive me for not listening and obey You\nword.&nbsp; Thank You for Your promise that\nYou will \u201cpour out Your Spirit\u201d and make Your Words known to me if I will turn\nquickly at the sound of Your rebuke.&nbsp;\nHelp me to listen and obey quickly when I know Your Spirit\u2019s leading in\nmy life.&nbsp; I want Your blessing more then\nthe recognition and popularity among sinful men.&nbsp; I love You, Lord!
