{"id":3150,"date":"2020-04-20T15:56:57","date_gmt":"2020-04-20T22:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3150"},"modified":"2020-04-20T15:57:03","modified_gmt":"2020-04-20T22:57:03","slug":"hobart-herd-devotional-proverbs-19-4-19-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3150","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd Devotional &#8211; Proverbs 19 &#8211; 4-19-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd \u2013 Proverbs 19 \u2013 4-19-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; There are times when we connect wisdom to\nriches and being poor to being foolish. But this chapter reminds us that is not\nnecessarily true.&nbsp; While being wise in\nour ways may lead us to God\u2019s blessings including wealth and luxury, there are\nmany times that wealth and ease leads us away from trust and dependency on the\nLord and will cause us to think of ourselves as wise and become foolish in our\nown ways.&nbsp; Proverbs 19 has many verses\nthat try to get us to turn to the Lord for wisdom, not the wisdom of the riches\nof this world.&nbsp; Verse 1 tells us \u201cBetter\nis a poor man who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in speech and\nis a fool.\u201d(NAS)&nbsp; There is discussion\nabout the ease of friendship for the wealthy and the lack of friends for a poor\nman.&nbsp; We are reminded that \u201cthe\nfoolishness of man rages against LORD\u201d.(vs.3)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; This battle between the foolishness of man\nand the wisdom that comes from the Lord continues to battle throughout this\nchapter.&nbsp; Verse 8 sums it up well; \u201cHe\nwho gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.\u201d(NAS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We are reminded that\ndiscretion allows us to be slow to anger forgive others (vs.11).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; In Bible School I was one of the last of my\nfriends to find a serious girl friend.&nbsp;\nIn fact I was the pronounced President of the BTR club (Bachelor\u2019s \u2018til\nRapture).&nbsp; I would tease my friends about\nbeing crazy and foolish about their girl friends.&nbsp; That remained true until I was set up by\nfriends with a beautiful young lady named Ruth.&nbsp;\nI quickly fell in love with her and resigned my post as President of the\nBTR club.&nbsp; I now know the truth of verse\n14.&nbsp; \u201cHouse and wealth are an inheritance\nfrom fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.\u201d(NAS)&nbsp; A wise and understanding wife truly is a gift\nfrom the Lord!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; The treasures of listening to God\u2019s commands\nand living in His wisdom are found in these verses: being gracious to a poor\nman is like lending to the Lord; kindness is a desirable measure of a man\u2019s\nheart; and the fear of the Lord will make it so we can sleep restfully\nuntouched by evil.(vs.17-23)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Father, thank you for the rich blessings of\nbeing in close relationship with You.&nbsp; I\nthank you for my understanding wife and friends.&nbsp; Help me to not be fooled by the riches of this\nworld, but lead me in Your ways of grace, kindness, forgiveness and rest.&nbsp; In Jesus name, Amen!&nbsp; Pastor Rob<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hobart Herd \u2013 Proverbs 19 \u2013 4-19-20 &nbsp;&nbsp; There are times when we connect wisdom to riches and being poor to being foolish.
