{"id":3217,"date":"2020-05-02T16:54:13","date_gmt":"2020-05-02T23:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3217"},"modified":"2020-05-02T16:55:06","modified_gmt":"2020-05-02T23:55:06","slug":"the-groundwork-of-our-growth-message-notes-5-3-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3217","title":{"rendered":"The Groundwork of Our Growth &#8211; Message Notes &#8211; 5-3-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Groundwork of Our Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2 Peter 1:12-21<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>12&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Therefore, I shall always be ready to\nremind you of these things, even though you {already} know {them}&nbsp; and have been established in the truth which\nis present with {you.}<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>13&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; And I consider it right, as long as I am in\nthis {earthly} dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>14&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; knowing that the laying aside of my\n{earthly} dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to\nme.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>15&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; And I will also be diligent that at any\ntime after my departure you may be able to call these things to mind.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>16&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For we did not follow cleverly devised\ntales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,\nbut we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>17&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For when He received honor and glory from\nGod the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic\nGlory, &#8220;This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased&#8221;&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>18&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; and we ourselves heard this utterance made\nfrom heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>19&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; And {so} we have the prophetic word {made}\nmore sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark\nplace, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>20&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; But know this first of all, that no\nprophecy of Scripture is {a matter} of one&#8217;s own interpretation,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>21&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; for no prophecy was ever made by an act of\nhuman will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.(NAS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Intro.&nbsp; The Battle for the Truth!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1) Starts first in our\nown hearts and minds as our sinful nature wants to lead us away from the truth\nof God\u2019s Word and His love.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2) The Battle continues\nas we struggle in our relationship with God and begin to stray from His word\nand listen to the lies of Satan and this world.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3) The Battle is lost if\nwe do not remain and hold onto the truths of God\u2019s Word!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prop.&nbsp; Are you feeling the painful struggle of\nknowing the Truth?&nbsp; The only place we can\nfind Truth is in the Word of God!&nbsp; Is\nyour life grounded in His Word of Truth?!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. The Ground Work of\nTruth \u2013 vs. 12-15<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; A. Built on the Reminders of Truth \u2013 vs. 12<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; Peter was \u201cAlways ready to remind\u201d us<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; Never taking for granted the firmly\nestablished Truth (cemented)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; B. Built on the Rightness of Truth \u2013 vs.\n13-14<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; The rightness in stirring up our minds<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; The refreshing in the stirring (the Lord\u2019s\nSupper)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; C. Built on the Reality of Truth \u2013 vs. 15<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; Our life\u2019s effort is to share the Truth <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; God\u2019s Truth is eternal and gives our lives\npurpose!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>**Enriching Every Sphere<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;Socrates taught for 40 years, Plato for 50,\nAristotle for 40, and Jesus for only 3. Yet the influence of Christ\u2019s 3-year\nministry infinitely transcends the impact left by the combined 130 years of\nteaching from these men who were among the greatest philosophers of all\nantiquity. Jesus painted no pictures; yet, some of the finest paintings of\nRaphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci received their inspiration from\nHim. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;Jesus wrote no poetry; but Dante, Milton, and\nscores of the world\u2019s greatest poets were inspired by Him. Jesus composed no\nmusic; still Haydn, Handel, Beethoven, Bach, and Mendelssohn reached their\nhighest perfection of melody in the hymns, symphonies, and oratories they\ncomposed in His praise. Every sphere of human greatness has been enriched by\nthis humble Carpenter of Nazareth. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2014Henry G. Bosch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. The Ground Work of\nTestimony \u2013 vs. 16-18<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; A. The Eyewitnesses Testimony \u2013 vs. 16<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; Not cunningly devised fables, no tricks or\nlies involved \u2013 1 Cor. 1:17-24, 17&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For\nChrist did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness\nof speech, that the cross of Christ should not be made void. 18&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\nFor the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but\nto us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For it is written, &#8220;I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and\nthe cleverness of the clever I will set aside.&#8221; 20&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the\ndebater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For since in the wisdom of God the world\nthrough its wisdom did not {come to} know God, God was well-pleased through the\nfoolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; For indeed Jews ask for signs, and Greeks\nsearch for wisdom; 23 &nbsp; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a\nstumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness, 24&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ\nthe power of God and the wisdom of God.(NAS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; The disciples, Peter, James and John saw \u2013\nMatt. 17:1-5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; B. The Eyewitnesses of His Glory \u2013 vs. 17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; Received glory from the Father<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; Received Majestic Glory from the Father<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; C. The Ear-witnesses Testimony \u2013 vs. 18<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; The Voice of God heard!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; The Verification Audibly of God\u2019s Pleasure\nin His Son<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. The Groundwork of\nTrust \u2013 vs. 19-21 (Illumination, Revelation, Inspiration)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>**Solomon As Better Judge<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;When William Jennings Bryan went to call on\nthe father of his prospective wife and seek the hand of his daughter in\nmarriage, knowing the strong religious feeling of the father, he thought to\nstrengthen his case by a quotation from the Bible, and quoted the proverb of\nSolomon: \u201cWhoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing\u201d (Prov. 18:22). <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;But to his surprise the father replied with a\ncitation from Paul to the effect that he that marrieth doeth well, but he that\nmarrieth not doeth better. The young suitor was for a moment confounded. Then\nwith a happy inspiration he replied that Paul had no wife and Solomon had seven\nhundred, and Solomon, therefore, ought to be the better judge as to marriage.\n\u2014C. E. The Certainty of Trust in God\u2019s Word \u2013 vs.\n19<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; The Testimony of Christ certifies the\nprophecy of God\u2019s Word<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; The Testimony of the Light of Christ in\nour hearts, Isa 9:2&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The people who\nwalk in darkness Will see a great light; those who live in a dark land, the\nlight will shine on them.(NAS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>**John 8:12 Again\ntherefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, &#8220;I am the light of the world; he\nwho follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of\nlife.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>**Eph 5:8&nbsp; for you were formerly darkness, but now you\nare light in the Lord; walk as children of light (NAS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; B. The Credibility of Trust in God\u2019s Word \u2013\nvs. 20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; The revelation and interpretation is from\nthe Holy Spirit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; Thus the understanding and preaching must\ncome from the Holy Spirit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cScripture is not only\nman\u2019s word, the fruit of human thought, premeditation and art, but also, and\nequally, God\u2019s word, spoken through man\u2019s lips or written with man\u2019s pen. In\nother words, Scripture has a double authorship, and man is only the secondary\nauthor; the primary author, through whose initiative, prompting and\nenlightenment, and under whose superintendence, each human writer did his work,\nis God the Holy Spirit.\u201d &#8211; The New Bible Dictionary<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; C. The Communication of Trust in God\u2019s Word \u2013\nvs. 21 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; God\u2019s Communication entrusted to us \u2013 2 Tim.\n3:16<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; &#8211; Our Commitment of Trust in His Word! &nbsp;&nbsp;Three rich men set out to NY Grand Hotel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cAfter arranging their\nbelongings in the proper order, the three men put on their tweed suits, left\nthe key at the desk and were off to see New York City\u2019s high spots. Hours went\nby and the three began to get weary; so they headed back to the hotel. At the\nlobby desk they were told the elevator had developed some complications and was\nnot able to take them upstairs. They were given the alternative of either\nwalking up twenty-nine flights of steps or sleeping in a small, less luxurious\nroom on the second floor.
