{"id":3342,"date":"2020-05-30T20:29:09","date_gmt":"2020-05-31T03:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3342"},"modified":"2020-05-30T20:29:21","modified_gmt":"2020-05-31T03:29:21","slug":"hobart-herd-devotional-psalms-29-5-29-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3342","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd Devotional &#8211; Psalms 29 &#8211; 5-29-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 29 \u2013\n5-29-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Over the last couple of days, we have\nexperienced some strong thunderstorms with lightning and wind.&nbsp; Being from Wyoming and Montana, I grew up\nwith these kind of storms on a regular basis.&nbsp;\nHowever, they are not so common here in Washington.&nbsp; The Bible Commentary says this Psalm was\nwritten as David watched God send extreme storms over the surrounding nations\nof the Canaanites.&nbsp; It was as if David\nwas on a mountain overlooking God\u2019s splendor and majesty as He rained down this\nstorm on the enemies of His people.&nbsp; We\nare blessed with very few extreme storms and often I here us commenting\nthankfully that we don\u2019t live in the tornado or hurricane areas of our\ncountry.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; David starts with ascribing to the Lord all\nthe glory, honor and strength that are due the God of the universe.&nbsp; In comparison to the Canaanite gods, his God\nmade them look like the handmade wood and stone idols that they really\nwere.&nbsp; Oh the splendor of our God in His\nglory, holiness and strength.&nbsp; In verses\n3-9, David repeats the phrase, \u201cthe voice of the Lord\u201d seven times.&nbsp; Why is the voice of the Lord so\nimportant?&nbsp; Maybe because the gods of the\nCanaanites could not speak or do what God can do with just His voice.&nbsp; If you go back to Genesis 1, you find that\nGod spoke the whole world and universe into being.&nbsp; It was by the breath of His voice that life\nwas given and everything we have around us was made.&nbsp; What a difference in comparison to gods who\ncould not speak and had no creative or sustaining power.&nbsp; These verses describe the devastation, fear\nand calamity that were part of the people who did not have God as their\ngod.&nbsp; How great is it to know that we\nhave a God that is so powerful that He can create and make everything happen\naccording to His will.&nbsp;&nbsp; Psalm 29:4, The\nvoice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.(ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Psalms 29:10-11, <sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp; The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the\nLord sits enthroned as king forever. <sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; May the Lord give strength to his people!
