Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 36 \u2013\n6-6-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   What is the difference between sin and\ntransgression?  Many of us sin by\nignorance of the law, or unthinkingly acting or saying something that is\nhurtful or harmful.  But transgression in\nHebrew signifies willful deviation from, and therefore rebellion against, the\npath of godly living.(from Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

David starts off this\noracle by using the word \u201cpesha\u2019\u201d, revolt, rebellion or transgression to\ndescribe the heart of the wicked.  Verses\n1-4 tell us of what the wicked heart looks and acts like.  Here is the list, it starts with no fear of\nGod, conceited self flattery concerning their wickedness, crooked or deceitful\nspeech, lacking the wisdom to do good, dreams plans of evil, and walks the path\nunwilling to turn from evil.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Like most of the Psalms, there is the\ncontrast of the goodness of the Lord towards the upright in heart in verses\n5-10.  It starts where we all need to\nstart with the vast loving-kindness of the Lord.  Psalms 36:5-6, 5   Thy lovingkindness, O LORD,\nextends to the heavens, Thy faithfulness {reaches} to the skies.  6  Thy\nrighteousness is like the mountains of God; Thy judgments are {like} a great\ndeep. O LORD, Thou preservest man and beast.(NAS)  Immediately in my mind comes the words from\nthe great hymn, \u201cO the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus, vast unmeasured, boundless,\nfree!  Rolling as a mighty ocean in its\nfullness over me\u201d.  David bursts into\nworship as precious loving-kindness of the Lord that provides refuge and\nstrength \u201cin the shadow of His wings\u201d. \nThe abundance of the Living water is refreshing and filled with His\ndelight.  The Fountain of life and light of\nthe Lord is what we want to live and see. \n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   This section ends with a prayer : Psalms 36:10      O continue Thy lovingkindness to those who\nknow Thee, and Thy righteousness to the upright in heart.(NAS)  This prayer includes the request that I not\nlet pride and wickedness drive me away from the lovingkindness and\nrighteousness of the Lord.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Father, when I see the wicked rebellion of\nthe world I live in, I am driven to nestle in Your lovingkindness towards\nme.  I recognize that I still have a\nsinful nature that draws me to willful rebellion against You.  I desperately want to be refreshed by the\nLiving Water of Your Spirit and walk in Your Life and Light.  O Lord, continue Your lovingkindness and\nrighteousness to me.  May I be upright\nbefore You in mind, heart, and action. \nIn Jesus Name, Amen!  Pastor Rob <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
