{"id":3423,"date":"2020-06-09T17:39:50","date_gmt":"2020-06-10T00:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3423"},"modified":"2020-06-09T17:40:03","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T00:40:03","slug":"hobart-herd-devotional-psalms-38-6-8-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3423","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd Devotional &#8211; Psalms 38 &#8211; 6-8-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 38 \u2013\n6-8-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; I would love to be able to say that the\nPsalms only have worship, praise, and glory to celebrate together in the\nLord.&nbsp; Psalms 38 reminds me that the pain\nand misery of sin and the punishment for sin by the Lord is something that I cannot\ngloss over, or simply ignore and try to forget.&nbsp;\nSin is serious business to a holy God and He cannot allow it to go\nunpunished.&nbsp; If we believer that God will\njudge a sinful world, why do we think that we can sin and not suffer the\nconsequences.&nbsp; The only difference is\nthat we have a God that we can turn to for forgiveness and restoration of\nrelationship with Him and others.&nbsp; But\nfirst we must deal with repentance and confession of sin for the blood of\nChrist to cover our sin and bring healing.&nbsp;\nThis chapter is full of the confession and pain of repentance from\nsin.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; There are many word pictures used to\ndescribe the pain of sin: arrows sunk deep in our flesh, drowning in iniquity,\nthe pain and puss of infection, the sickness that sinks into your bones,\ninability to stand upright and walk, heart breaking emotional and physical\npain.&nbsp; All these are found in the\ndescription of the affects of sin on our lives.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There is even the\nshunning of friends and loved ones as our sin changes how we love and relate\nwith each other.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; So how does the pain of sin change and turn\naround in our lives?&nbsp; It starts with\nfinding hope and trust in a God of forgiveness.&nbsp;\n&nbsp;Psalms 38:15&nbsp;&nbsp; For I hope in Thee, O LORD; Thou wilt answer,\nO Lord my God.(NAS)&nbsp; When we know that we\ncan trust in the Lord to hear, answer, and forgive then we can confess and\nrepent.(vs. 18)&nbsp; Finally, we can trust in\nthe Lord to not leave us or forsake us as He accepts the payment of Christ\u2019s\nblood as the atoning sacrifice for my sin.&nbsp;\nI can remember as a boy who was punished with spanking for my\ndisobedience, the closer you were to the one who was spanking, the less the\nblow hurt.&nbsp; When we turn to God in\nconfession and repentance, there is the pain of punishment and consequences,\nbut in return there is the forgiveness that lets me know that the Lord has not\nforsaken me and is present with me providing help and strength to live in the\npower and joy of my salvation.&nbsp; Psalms\n38:21-22, 21&nbsp; Do not forsake me, O LORD;\nO my God, do not be far from me!
