Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 41 \u2013\n6-11-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   This passage is a great reminder of God\nbeing merciful to those who show mercy to those poor and in need.  One of the reasons that David could count on\nthe Lord\u2019s mercy and grace is because he showed mercy and grace to the poor and\nneedy.  I am reminded of the story of\nMephibosheth, son of Jonathon, grandson of Saul.(2 Samuel 9).  David had every right to hate the family of\nSaul but wanted to show honor instead. \nMephibosheth was a cripple, and David took him in to his household and\ncared for him the rest of his life.  He\nreturned Saul\u2019s land back to the family and gave honor to them.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when\nDavid finds himself in need of God\u2019s mercy, he confidently calls out to the Lord\nand trusts Him for forgiveness, healing and restoration.  Thank the Lord that He is a merciful God, and\nwhen we show mercy to those in need and hurting, God promises to show His mercy\nto us.  I am reminded of the Beatitude\u2019s where\nJesus said, \u201cBlessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.\u201d(Matthew\n5:7)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   It is from this position that David cries\nout to God for vengeance, deliverance, and justice against his enemies.(vs.\n4-10)  When our enemies turn against us,\nand those we thought were friends betray us, we can count on the Lord to set\nthings right.  We need David\u2019s heart for\nthose who are in need.  Instead of anger\nand hatred, we need to trust that the Lord will deliver and bring justice to\nthose who are the enemies of God\u2019s children. \nIn a world that is crying out for justice, may we know that justice is\nfound only in the Lord Jesus Christ.  He\nalone knows all sides and can bring the justice and righteousness needed in\nevery painful situation.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   This Chapter ends with a statement of faith\nin God\u2019s delight in us.  Psalms 41:11, By\nthis I know that you delight in me: my enemy will not shout in triumph over me.\n12 <\/sup> But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me\nin your presence forever.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

(ESV)  I can trust in God\u2019s grace and mercy as I\nshow that same grace and mercy to others around me, even my enemies.  After all I look forward to being in His presence\nforever.  That is enough for me!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Father, I truly am in awe of Your grace and\nmercy shown to me in Your Son, Jesus Christ. \nI don\u2019t deserve Your love, but You loved me anyway.  Forgive me for not showing my love to those\nin need around me, even my enemies. \nThank You for Your delight in me and the promise of being in Your\npresence forever.  In Jesus Name,\nAmen!  Pastor Rob    <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
