{"id":3436,"date":"2020-06-13T22:09:35","date_gmt":"2020-06-14T05:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3436"},"modified":"2020-06-13T22:10:13","modified_gmt":"2020-06-14T05:10:13","slug":"hobart-herd-psalms-42-6-12-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3436","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd &#8211; Psalms 42 &#8211; 6-12-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 42 \u2013\n6-12-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Some of your Bibles may have \u201cBook 2\u201d\nwritten as a title over Psalms 42.&nbsp; There\nare 5 divisions or books in the 150 Chapters of Psalms, book 2 goes from Psalms\n42 \u2013 Psalms 72.&nbsp; \u201cOne psalm in Book II is\nby Asaph (Ps. 50), 20 are by David (Pss. 51-70), 3 are anonymous (Pss. 43; 67;\n71), and 1 is by Solomon (Ps. 72).\u201d(The Bible Knowledge Commentary)&nbsp; Most theologians think the 5 books are\ndivided like the 5 books of the Torah or Pentateuch.&nbsp; Originally it seems that Psalms 42-43 were\none Psalm, but for our devotions today, we will view them separately.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; I am sure there were many times when David\nwas on the run, or when he was in exile from Absalom, he longed to be able to\nbe in God\u2019s presence and worship Him in His temple.&nbsp; This Psalm starts out with a popular worship\nsong, As the Deer Panteth for the Water.&nbsp;\nI know that during this time of \u201cStay at Home\u201d I have really longed for\nthe opportunity to worship together with my congregation.&nbsp; There is nothing like being together with\npeople who love the Lord and want to worship Him and know Him.&nbsp; We are still the Church the Body of Christ\nwhen we are separated as His Spirit lives within each of us.&nbsp; In the times of David and the Old Testament,\nGod\u2019s presence was known to be residing in the Holy of Holies and the nation of\nIsrael was only supposed to worship Him corporately together in the Tabernacle\nor Temple.&nbsp; We are no longer confined to\na place as His Spirit residing in every born again believer makes each and every\none of us the temple of God.&nbsp; But I think\nthis time for us has solidified my hearts longing to be together in one place\nwith God\u2019s children of like faith.&nbsp; I\ntruly long to be in God\u2019s presence, where one or two are gathered together to\nworship and receive His encouragement and strength.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Psalms 42:5-6, 11; 43:5 all repeat these\nwords: \u201cWhy are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your\nhope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.\u201d&nbsp; No matter what physically separates us from\nGod, know that we can put our trust in Him and we will know that He is there\nfor us.&nbsp; May the discouragements of our\nenemies, the distance of location from other believers, or any situation that\nproduces a sense of loneliness or desperation never take away our longing for\nthe Lord and our trust in His presence, love and care for us.&nbsp; Romans 8:35-39, 35&nbsp; Who shall separate us from the love of\nChrist?
