{"id":3451,"date":"2020-06-15T16:17:02","date_gmt":"2020-06-15T23:17:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3451"},"modified":"2020-06-15T16:17:14","modified_gmt":"2020-06-15T23:17:14","slug":"hobart-herd-devotional-psalms-44-6-14-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3451","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd Devotional &#8211; Psalms 44 &#8211; 6-14-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 44-6-14-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; This Psalm is a lament to God for seemingly\nnot being there for His people.&nbsp; If we\nare truthful, all of us have had times when we feel as if God has forgotten us\nor rejected us.&nbsp; I am so glad that God\nhears the laments and cries of our heart and does not only hear us when everything\nis going good.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; In verses 1-8 we have a review of the\nhistory of God with His people as He fights for them when they entered the land\nafter 40 years in the wilderness.&nbsp; We\nneed to remember the history of God\u2019s goodness and the victory of God\u2019s\nfighting for us.&nbsp; I have seen the Lord direct,\nguide, fight and bring victory in my life over the 40 years of ministry.&nbsp; I have also lived through many days of\nsadness, depression and lament as it seemed the Lord had forsaken me. Psalms\n44:6-8, <sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp; For not in my\nbow do I trust, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>nor can my\nsword save me. &nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup> But\nyou have saved us from our foes <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>and have\nput to shame those who hate us. <sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup> In God we have boasted\ncontinually, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>and we\nwill give thanks to your name forever. <em>Selah<\/em>(ESV)&nbsp; Through all of the history of my life, I know\nthat any victory came because the Lord fought for me not because of my strength\nor skill.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; From verses 9-16 we hear of the embarrassment\nand disgrace that came when Israel\u2019s enemies defeated them.&nbsp; So many times there is a reason for our\ndefeat.&nbsp; We may have forgotten God, or\nsinned against Him.&nbsp; We may have trusted\nin our own strength or followed our own paths instead of God\u2019s way.&nbsp; However, in verses 17-22 we find that this\nwas not the case.&nbsp; The nation was\nbewildered because they were innocent of turning away from God.&nbsp; Their heart had not \u201cturned back\u201d; their steps\nhad not \u201cdeparted from Your way\u201d; they had not spread the hands to a foreign\ngod.&nbsp; The description turns to some very\nwell known words in verse 22, \u201cYet for your sake we are killed all the day\nlong; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.\u201d&nbsp; This verse is repeated in the New Testament\nin Romans 8:36, and is followed by some the greatest words of assurance and strength.&nbsp; Romans 8:37-39, <sup>37&nbsp;<\/sup>No, in all\nthese things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. <sup>38&nbsp;<\/sup>For\nI am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things, present\nnor things to come, nor powers, <sup>39&nbsp;<\/sup>nor height nor depth, nor\nanything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God\nin Christ Jesus our Lord.(ESV)&nbsp; We must\nnever forget that no matter how hard it is nothing can separate us from the\nlove of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; The last 4 verses are a prayer pleading for\nthe Lord to awake, come to their defense, and rise up and be their help.&nbsp; We can trust in His redemption because of the\nsteadfast love of the Lord.(vs. 26) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Father, in my deepest depression and despair,\nhelp me to remember all the times You have been there for me.&nbsp; I know that I will go through times when the\nenemy defeats and mocks me.&nbsp; Help me to\ntrust in Your redemption, never forgetting that nothing can separate me from\nYour love.&nbsp; In Jesus Name, Amen!&nbsp; Pastor Rob<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 44-6-14-20 &nbsp;&nbsp; This Psalm is a lament to God for seemingly not being there for His people.&nbsp; If we are truthful, all of us have had times when we feel as if God has forgotten &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[142],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3451"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=3451"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3451\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3452,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3451\/revisions\/3452"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=3451"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=3451"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=3451"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
