{"id":3482,"date":"2020-06-22T20:22:57","date_gmt":"2020-06-23T03:22:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3482"},"modified":"2020-06-22T20:23:11","modified_gmt":"2020-06-23T03:23:11","slug":"hobart-herd-devotional-psalms-50-6-22-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3482","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd Devotional &#8211; Psalms 50 &#8211; 6-22-20"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 50 \u2013\n6-22-20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Two worship choruses came to mind as I was\nreading the words of this Psalm. &nbsp;\u201cFrom\nthe Rising of the sun to the going down thereof\u201d, the name of the Lord shall be\npraised.(vs. 1)&nbsp; \u201cHe Owns the Cattle on a\nThousand Hills\u201d is an old, old, chorus from my childhood days is found in verse\n10.&nbsp; These choruses were meant for worship\nand praise as we sang them, but in this Psalm they are statements about the\nlack of true worship of the Lord.&nbsp; Both\nthese verses mention things that God was angry about with His people.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; The first was the lack of recognizing Who He\nwas and the respect and honor due His name; and the second was the hypocritical\nway Israel was worshiping with sacrifices galore and yet they were not truly\nworshiping with thankfulness from the heart.&nbsp;\nThe first 2 verses set us up with the beauty and glory of our great\nGod.&nbsp; Then comes the complaints that God\nhad against His people. He reminds them in verse 5 that they made a covenant\nwith God for following His commands in obedience.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; In verses 7-13, God says that they have\noverwhelmed Him with their sacrifices as if He needed more animals or ate them\nfor sustenance.&nbsp; But they had failed to\noffer the sacrifice of their lips in thanksgiving. &nbsp;Psalms 50:14-15, <sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Offer unto God thanksgiving; And pay\nthy vows unto the most High:<sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; And\ncall upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify\nme.(ESV)&nbsp; Oh that I would remember continually\nto be thankful in my requests and to make my petitions with a heart filled with\ngratitude and praise.&nbsp; They were reciting\nHis Word with lips and hearts that were filled with sin and ugliness.&nbsp; They were misrepresenting God in the way they\nspoke and lived.&nbsp; God\u2019s warning was this:\nPsalms 50:21-22, <sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; These\nthings you have done, and I have been silent; you thought that I was one like\nyourself. But now I rebuke you and lay the charge before you. <sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; \u201cMark this, then, you who forget God, lest\nI tear you apart, and there be none to deliver!(ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; So what is the answer to reclaiming praise\nand worship that glorifies God?&nbsp; Psalms\n50:23, <sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The one who\noffers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way\nrightly I will show the salvation of God!\u201d(ESV)&nbsp;\nWe must come to God with a lips and heart filled with thanksgiving and\npraise, and order our ways in a way that shows our faith and trust in the righteous\nGod of our salvation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Father, forgive me for acting like Your\npeople of old in the way I treat You in worship.&nbsp; Many times I have come to You with\ncomplaints, worries, fears and anger, refusing to recognize with thanksgiving Who\nYou are and What You have done for me.&nbsp;\nForgive me for using Your Word and commands without following them from\nmy heart bringing a wrong picture to the world around me.&nbsp; Give me a heart of thanksgiving and make my\nsteps to walk in Your way as one who trusts and has faith in the God of my\nsalvation.&nbsp; In Jesus Name, Amen!&nbsp; Pastor Rob<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 50 \u2013 6-22-20 &nbsp;&nbsp; Two worship choruses came to mind as I was reading the words of this Psalm. &nbsp;\u201cFrom the Rising of the sun to the going down thereof\u201d, the name of the Lord &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[142],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3482"}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=3482"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3482\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":3483,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3482\/revisions\/3483"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=3482"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=3482"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=3482"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
