Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalm 53<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   This Psalm is almost an exact replica of\nPsalms 14 except it replaces the name \u201cLORD\u201d, Yahweh, with the name God,\n\u201cElohiym\u201d in Psalms 53.  Why is\nthis?  It may be a different tune played\nto sing it, but it also represents God as having the same message with His\npeople in covenant as \u201cYahweh\u201d (Exodus 6:2-8), and the sinfulness of the people\nof the world as the Supreme Deity, \u201cElohiym\u201d. \nThis is an important truth as we need to understand that while God made\na covenant with His people Israel, He also wants to have a relationship with\nall mankind.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   In verses 1-3, we find the fool says in his\nheart that there is no God.  We are so\ncorrupt that all of us are totally sinful. \nThese verses are used in Romans 3:9-12 to describe the depravity of man,\ntotally sinful and without hope before a righteous God in our own strength and\nability.  \u201cAll have sinned and fall short\nof the glory of God.\u201d(Romans 3:23)  David\nis amazed that we seem to never learn our need for God to step in with His gift\nof eternal life through Jesus Christ. \n\u201cFor the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life\nthrough Jesus Christ our Lord.\u201d(Romans 6:23)  \nThe description is one of the evil ones eating up God\u2019s people and\ndevouring each other as they refuse to call on God.(vs. 4-5)  We are reminded that God will crush those\nthat refuse and turn against Him, His People and His Kingdom.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   The cry that we all should have is found in\nverse6: \u201cOh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When God\nrestores His captive people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad.\u201d(NAS)  We long for the Lord to come and restore His\npeople and set up His Kingdom.  Our plea\nis, \u201cHe which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even\nso, come, Lord Jesus.\u201d(Revelation 22:20) <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   Father, we recognize our sinfulness and\ntotal depravity before You.  Left to my\nown sinful ways I would never repent and turn to You for forgiveness of sin and\nsalvation.  Thank You that in Your great\nmercy and grace, You sent Your Gift, the Lord Jesus to provide for my\nsalvation, and the salvation of all who would call on You for forgiveness and\ntrust in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.  In the midst of all the terrible destruction\nand sinfulness of this world I cry out to You, come quickly Lord Jesus!  In Jesus Name, Amen!  Pastor Rob<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
