Psalms 55"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 55<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Have you ever been betrayed by someone you\nthought was your closest friend and confidant?&nbsp;\nDavid faced a time in life where not only did his own son Absalom turn\nthe people away from David and try to bring a coup, but David\u2019s own personal\ncounselor Ahithophel joined\nAbsalom against him.&nbsp; David had to run\nfor his life and battle against his own son and people who believed the\ndeceitful lies that had been fed to them for 4 years by Absalom.&nbsp; Many who David thought were close allies\nturned out to be wolves in sheep clothing.&nbsp;\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; As you read the first 8 verses you find the\ndescription of the broken heart of David as he weeps for God to deliver him\nfrom traitors and enemies.&nbsp; Psalms\n55:4-5, 4&nbsp; My heart is in anguish within\nme; the terrors of death assail me. 5&nbsp; Fear\nand trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me.(NIV)&nbsp; David wanted to fly away like a dove, flee to\nthe desert away from the storm, and try to find shelter and rest.&nbsp; I try not to think of the times when my heart\nhas been broken by betrayal of the ones I love and trusted.&nbsp; I think all of us have been tempted to run\naway and hide as it seems the whole world as turned against us.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; David asked for God to confuse the wicked\nwho had turned against him.(vs. 9)&nbsp; It\nwould be one thing if it was an enemy that was slandering and turning the\npeople against him, but it was his own son and closest friend and counselor,\nones who had celebrated victories and worshipped before God together with\nhim.(vs. 10-15)&nbsp; Again, it is David\u2019s\nfaithfulness in prayer and trusting God hear and fight for him that saves\nhim.&nbsp; Psalms 55:16-19, 16&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; But I call to God, and the LORD saves me. 17&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Evening, morning and noon I cry out in\ndistress, and he hears my voice. 18 He\nransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose\nme. 19&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; God, who is enthroned\nforever, will hear them and afflict them\u201d (NIV). <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; The real call for us is found in verses\n22-3.&nbsp; \u201cCast your cares on the LORD and\nhe will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.\u201d\u2026 \u201cBut as for me, I\ntrust in you.\u201d(NIV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It reminds me of 1 Peter\n5:7: Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.\u201d&nbsp; If you find yourself betrayed and\nbrokenhearted today cry out to the Lord, and then cast your care on Him.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Father, we can only begin to understand what\nit must be like for you to deal with sinful man, who even though created and\nloved by You, we rebelled and betrayed You and Your Son.&nbsp; My heart has been broken in thinking of the\ntimes I have been devastated by those who I love and trust.&nbsp; Help me to trust in Your faithful justice and\nYour eternal care for me.&nbsp; I cast my\npain, fear, anger, frustration and troubles upon You because I trust in Your\nloving care for me!&nbsp;
