{"id":3596,"date":"2020-07-13T19:11:51","date_gmt":"2020-07-14T02:11:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3596"},"modified":"2020-07-13T19:11:59","modified_gmt":"2020-07-14T02:11:59","slug":"hobart-herd-devotional-psalms-68","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3596","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd Devotional &#8211; Psalms 68"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 68<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; This is a Psalm of Celebration of God\u2019s\nmighty power and victory over all the enemies of His people, Israel.&nbsp; Some think that this was written by David\nafter the victory and taking the city of Jerusalem or maybe the victorious\nmarch and celebration of bringing the Ark of the Covenant into the city.&nbsp; Whatever the situation this became a favorite\nsong of God\u2019s might shown in fighting for His people.&nbsp; In verses 1-6 we have the exaltation and\njubilation over God\u2019s power and protection as He battles for His people.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; In verses 7-18 we find the celebration of\nGod bringing His people out of Egypt, through the desert and into the promised\nland.&nbsp; The mention of the mountains of\nBashan or Herman and Sinai were considered the great mountains of the region.&nbsp; The fact that God chose to make His abode in\nMount Zion represents His victory and presence in the promised land.&nbsp; Another note is the mention of God\u2019s\nprotection and care for the Fatherless, widows and needy.(vs. 5, 10)&nbsp; This reminds me that God\u2019s heart is never far\nfrom the hurting and needy even when doing major battle against His\nenemies.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; One of my favorite verses in this Psalm is\nverse 19, <sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Blessed\nbe the Lord, <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>who daily\nbears us up; God is our salvation. <em>Selah<\/em>(ESV)&nbsp; I am so thankful that the God Who brings the\ngreat victories over the powerful enemies never forgets to bear me up daily as\nthe God of my eternal salvation and the God of my daily salvation and\ndeliverance.&nbsp; In the midst of all His might\ncomes the loving grace and mercy of God to bear me up and deliver me from my\ndaily fears and struggles.&nbsp; His effective\ndestruction and devastation over the enemies of His people never stops Him from\nbeing the God of our salvation and victory over death.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; In verses 24-31 we have a great description\nof the processional march into the city, the coronation of our Almighty God as\nHe comes in victory and presence into His sanctuary.&nbsp; All of the tribes of His people are standing and\npraising God as He enters before them.&nbsp;\nPsalms 68:28-29, <sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup> Summon\nyour power, O God, the power, O God, by which you have worked for us. <sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp; Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings\nshall bear gifts to you.(ESV)&nbsp; The mighty\nkings of the earth recognize the true King of Kings in all His might and\nglory.&nbsp; The response of His people, and\nour response is described in verses 34 and 35: <sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;  Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over\nIsrael, and whose power is in the skies. &nbsp;&nbsp;<sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel\u2014he is the\none who gives power and strength to his people.
