{"id":3617,"date":"2020-07-16T09:51:31","date_gmt":"2020-07-16T16:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3617"},"modified":"2020-07-16T09:51:43","modified_gmt":"2020-07-16T16:51:43","slug":"hobart-herd-devotional-psalms-72","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hobart-community-church.org\/?p=3617","title":{"rendered":"Hobart Herd Devotional &#8211; Psalms 72"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Hobart Herd Devotional \u2013 Psalms 72<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; This is one of the two Psalms that are\nattributed to Solomon (Psalms 72 &amp; 127) and reflect his prayer for wisdom\nand guidance in ruling over the kingdom of Israel.&nbsp; It also has a duel message as it seeks God\nfor the wisdom to rule during his lifetime, and is also a prophecy of the King\nof Kings, Jesus Christ, and His rule and reign over all in the final\nKingdom.&nbsp; It starts off with a request\nfor God\u2019s justice and righteousness to be the foundation of Solomon\u2019s reign\n(vs. 1), and then extols the greatness of the Lord\u2019s rule and reign.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; As Solomon asks for the wisdom to rule with\njustice and righteousness, he recognizes that this can only come from the\nLord.&nbsp; In verses 1-4 he recognizes that\nthe signs of a true king will reflect God\u2019s righteous judgment and bring\nprotection to the poor, needy, oppressed, rescuing them and defending them as\nHe crushes the oppressor.&nbsp; It seems that\nSolomon realizes that only the True King can accomplish this and begins in\nverses 5-7 to describe the eternal Just and Righteous King.&nbsp; This King will bring the growth of the\nKingdom from sea to sea, and the prosperity of all His subjects.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; All dominion and power belong to the Lord\nand Solomon describes this in verses 8-14.&nbsp;\nIn these verses the Kingdom spreads to the ends of the earth and all\nother kings and powers will bring tribute and bow down to worship Him.&nbsp; This is a deserving dominion as the Lord is\nthe only One Who can bring the peace, justice and protection necessary to\nrighteously rule over all the earth and His people.&nbsp; In today\u2019s world, it is hard to imagine a\nworld with a Leader Who can bring all people together with Justice and\nRighteousness.&nbsp; We need to trust in Him\ntoday, as He is the only answer to true justice and peace.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; In the final 5 verses (vs.15-20), we have\nthe praise and adoration the belongs to the One and Only true King over His\neternal Kingdom.&nbsp; We are reminded in\nScripture that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ\nis Lord.&nbsp; Verse 16 tells of the swaying\nfields of grain describing the worship of every person and nature as a whole\nthat will bring the worship of prosperity and glory to the One Who makes all\nthings consist and have their being.(Col. 1:16-17)&nbsp; His name is eternal and the whole earth will\nbring Him honor and praise.&nbsp; Psalms 72:19\n&#8211; Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with\nhis glory.
