Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalms 19 & 20 – 5-18-20

 Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalm 19 – 5-17-20

I love this Psalm and the reminder of all the ways God speaks to us and gives us pictures and word that help us know Who He is and how He loves to communicate and bless us.  The first 6 verses are praising God for all the ways that His creation and handiwork reveal His awesome power, strength and glory.  The word pictures of the heavens, the sun, moon and stars speak day and night to us about our omnipotent God and His love and care for us.  All that God has made speaks louder than any words and leaves us with no excuse for knowing, loving and serving Him.

The theme of the next 5 verses (vs. 7-11) bring us the truths and blessing of God’s Law, or Word that He has spoken and given to us.  These verses also represent a worship song that we often sing called “The Law of the Lord”.  Verses 7-9 are the verses of the song, verse 10 is the chorus we sing between each verse and verse 11 is the ending chorus.  These verses tell us of glory of God’s Word; perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, true, righteous, and precious, are the descriptions of God’s holy word.  We truly are richly blessed by being able to read, hear, memorize, and hold dear God’s Word, His love letter to us!  There are also many blessings and rewards from hearing and obeying God’s Word; reviving the soul; making wise the simple; rejoicing the heart, enlightening the eyes; enduring forever; righteous altogether. Psalms 19:7-9.  What do you need today?  God’s Word can bring all of this into your life and bless you.

With all these truths and blessings being ours, I should make sure that I am looking, seeking, and doing God’s will and plan for my life.  14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14   This should be my prayer and my heart before my Great God and His Holy Word.

Father, truly I am blessed beyond comprehension by Your creation and Your mighty Word.  I cry out to know You and Your way, and yet fail to look around me and spend time in Your word.  Forgive me for getting so caught up in my life that I fail to take time to meditate, memorize and bask in Your Creation and Your Word.  Thank You for loving me through it all.  In Jesus Name, Amen!

Hobart Herd Devotional Psalms 20 – 5-18-20

Many times, David saw the hand of God bringing victory and salvation to His people and nation.  The victories over the Goliath and the Philistines as well as many of the surrounding nations were all an answer to the prayers of His people and King.  Over, and over again and against all odds, God had shown Himself strong on behalf of His children.  This is a song of glory and praise to God, a song of blessing and remembrance telling of God’s rescue and blessing as well as singing His blessing to each other.

The first 5 verses are filled with “may”.  These are not just requests, but statements of faith in God meeting their every need and saving them in impossible situations.  We should be doing this to each other.  We should say, sing, and pray God’s blessings on each other, not just as prayer requests, but as statements of faith in Who God is and What He has done, and will do for each of us!  As you meet and greet each other, even from a distance or on the phone or internet, make sure you encourage and lift each other up in your faith in God’s power, protection, love and salvation.

6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. 8 They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright. Psalms 20:6-8   Where is my trust today?  Have I seen God’s mighty hand in my life, saving, protecting, and keeping me?  May this statement of faith be mine today.  I trust in the name of the LORD my God!

Father, today I renew my trust in Your Name.  I find myself trusting in myself, or those that You have placed around me.  I catch myself looking to my money and insurances to keep me afloat.  I ask today that You would remind me that You and You alone can save and keep me.  In Jesus Name, Amen!
