Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalms 28 – 5-28-20

The Lord is my Rock, my Strength, my Shield, my Saving Defense, my Shepherd.  These are all the titles for the Lord given in this chapter.  David’s fear was that the Lord would be silent to him and he would lose his faith and trust in such a way that he would become just like the condemned enemies of God.  As David prays to the Lord, He asks that God would distinguish him from those who were His enemies who were doomed for destruction.  David had witnessed the judgment of the Lord on his enemies and wanted nothing to do with God’s wrath and judgment.  David was aware that it was the works of the enemies’ hand that brought down God’s judgment on them.

David was so thankful to the Lord for hearing his supplication.  The fact that God would stoop to hear and answer his earnest prayers brought a deep since of relief, comfort and joy.  David was able to return to his confident faith in the Lord.  Psalms 28:7-8, 7    The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him. 8    The LORD is their strength, and He is a saving defense to His anointed.(NAS)  It is so great to see the Lord lift us up as we pray and seek Him earnestly.

Maybe this is a day that I don’t feel like the Lord is hearing my prayer and I am tempted to give up and go the way of the world.  Truly, God has distinguished us and made us His children placing His Holy Spirit within us sealing us as His own.(1Peter 2:9-10)  Today I can put my trust in the Lord my Rock, Strength, Shield, Defender, Shepherd, Who is able to handle anything that comes my way today.  May we truly give thanks and praise to the Lord for being all this and more to us.  I am humbled that He chooses to hear my prayers and speak to me through His Word by His Spirit.  May I never lose sight of Who the Lord is for me!

Father, You have given me Your Son as my Rock.  When I build my life on Him I have your power, provision, protection and purpose in my life.  I know that I sometimes think that You have forsaken me and begin to lose the hope and joy of my faith.  Thank You for being my Shepherd and leading me back to You and Your ways.  I trust in You for today and know that You will carry me through.  In Jesus Name, Amen!  Pastor Rob
