Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalms 33 – 6-3-20

Hobart Herd Devotional Psalms 33 – 6-3-20

Sometimes we sing and praise the Lord out of duty instead of out of joy.  I know I have been finding it hard to sing for joy to the Lord and worship Him from my heart.  So why should I sing with a loud voice a new song to the Lord?(vs.1-3)  When I am down emotionally because of what is happening around me, how can I change my heart to sing praise to the Lord.  Psalms 33:4-5, 4    For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. 5   The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.(NIV)  These verses give us the reason we can always sing and worship the Lord from our hearts.  As we begin to look around we can see that the earth is full of His unfailing love.  His Word is true and He is faithful in all He does.  Many times as I read the Word, I am lifted from the situations surrounding me to a true vision of the Lord and His goodness to me.  He is always faithful, true, righteous, just and unfailing in His love for me and His children.

God our Creator is all inclusive in His love, care and justice.  In verses 7-15, we are reminded that He watches all nations and every generation of peoples ready to love, heal and deal with everyone.  Psalms 33:10-12, 10  The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. 12  Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.(NIV)  If you are upset with how things are going in this world, these verses are reassuring and bring my heart hope that allows me to rejoice and worship the Lord in every situation.

I can know that the eyes of the Lord are on me to bring me hope in a hopeless world.(vs. 18)  I can wait patiently on the Lord because He gives me hope as I trust in Him.  This hope allows me to sing and worship Him as He deserves even when the situations of this world are dismal and desperate.  Psalms 33:20-22, 20      We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. 21         In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.  22   May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.(NIV)  With the Lord as my Help and Shield, I can trust and rest in the hope that He gives me, always singing a new song of praise to His holy name.

Father, You truly do deserve continual worship and praise, a new song coming from my heart for Your faithful unfailing love.  Forgive me for letting this world distract me from Your purpose for me, which is that I might glorify You in everything I say and do.  Give me a new song in my heart that continues to lift me in hope and trust in You.  In Jesus Name, Amen!  Pastor Rob
