Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalms 62

Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalms 62

As a sports fans we have been through a very difficult time.  Some of us have resorted to watching past games in order to fill the void.  The only problem with this scenario is that we already know who wins, and how it happens.  We have confidence in the final score because we know the end.  This should also be true as believers!  While we might not know exactly how the Lord is going to work things out in our lives, we do have the hope and promise of knowing the end score.  This should give us a confidence and trust to wait patiently on the Lord.  David learned in his life that he could wait on the Lord because he knew the promises of the Lord.

We need to recognize that the Lord is our Rock and our Salvation.  Therefore we can wait in confident faith and trust in Him.  Because of this “I will never be shaken”. (vs.2)  Though the enemy tries to topple us from our Tower of Strength, we know that nothing can take us from the Lord.(vs. 3-4)  Psalms 62:5-6, 5      Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. 6         He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.(NIV)  These key verses should represent our hearts in finding rest, hope, salvation, and strength.  Surely we can trust in Him completely!

Psalms 62:8   Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah.(NIV)

In the end David reminds us of 2 things that God is to us: Psalms 62:11-12,11  One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, 12          and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done.(NIV)  We can have confident trust in the Lord because we know He is Strong, and He is Lovingly Gracious.  I can trust that as I put my faith and trust in Him completely for my salvation and for my strength in this life; He is the Rewarder of those who love Him and serve Him faithfully.  I can wait on Him because I know the final score!

Father, forgive me for not waiting patiently trusting in Your unfailing love and strength.  Help me like David to know that You are my Rock and Salvation, the strength of my life.  May I gain the patience and trust I need for today because I know the final score.  In Jesus Name, Amen!  Pastor Rob
