Hobart Herd Devotionals – Psalms 93

The Bible Knowledge Commentary says that Psalms 47, 93, 95-99, are called “Enthronement Psalms” or “Theocratic Psalms”, which simply tells us that these Psalms celebrate the Majesty and Reign of the Lord over all the heavens, earth and universe.  It reminds me of hiking or driving through the Rockies and marveling at God’s handiwork.  When we see all that He has created for us to enjoy and then stop and think of this Mighty God reigning on His glorious throne over all that we can see, it should make us fall to our knees and worship Him.  He truly is clothed with majesty and strength as we ponder His everlasting reign.  From before the beginning to after the end, He is the Mighty God, ruling and reigning over all with all glory majesty and power.(vs. 1-2)

Sometimes we forget how mighty our God really is!  I remember a few years ago, my wife and I got away to the coast in the fall to celebrate our anniversary.  While we were looking out our hotel window and watching the waves roll in, a storm appeared in the distance.  The clouds became black and the wind came up.  The waves came rolling in getting bigger and bigger.  The water sprayed up in the air as the waves crashed over the beach and against the rock wall covering our picture window with salty drops.  The roar was loud with crashes of waves and thunder, and then all of a sudden the power went out for several hours.  When I read verses 3-4 and the description of God’s Might and power, I think of this trip and sitting in the dark in the middle of the afternoon and watching the white caps of the big waves almost glowing as they crashed and roared.  I need to be reminded continually the greatness of my God and trust in His love and might.

Psalms 93:5     Thy testimonies are fully confirmed; Holiness befits Thy house, O LORD, forevermore.(NAS)  The Lord continually confirms Who He is all around me and I know that He reigns in Holiness as He did in His temple and that reign is Eternal!

Father God, may I never forget that You are the Mighty King, Ruler over everything, for all time and beyond.  Help me to humbly worship and glorify You with all that I am and all that I do.  Today I celebrate the fact that You are on Your throne and nothing happens but what You allow it, and it will be used for Your Eternal Kingdom and Glory!  In Jesus Name, Amen!  Pastor Rob

Hobart Herd Devotionals – Psalms 94

Today I want God to avenge the righteous!  As I see the unjust wickedness surrounding me in this world, I just want God to start dealing out His righteous justice on the wicked in our world.  Knowing that God is on His throne in might, power and majesty, I just want to see some holy fireworks descend on those who are abusing the right and oppressing the poor and needy.  It should not shock me to see California burning up, and the major cities destroying themselves from within.  God will not be mocked and not show up in Vengeance and Righteous Fury!  This is what Psalms 94 is all about.

This is a prayer for God’s Vengeance to come upon the wicked and the enemies of God’s people.  Having just declared His Might and Power in Psalms 93, the prayer is that God will not wait long to silence those who are abusing, murdering, arrogantly proclaiming that God does not see or hear and will not come to the rescue.(vs. 1-7)

This is the message we need today: Psalms 94:8-11, 8  Pay heed, you senseless among the people; and when will you understand, stupid ones? 9       He who planted the ear, does He not hear? He who formed the eye, does He not see? 10  He who chastens the nations, will He not rebuke, {even} He who teaches man knowledge? 11  The LORD

knows the thoughts of man, that they are a {mere} breath.(NAS)   The wicked of our nation and world need to realize that God’s mercy and grace will not forget what they are doing and saying right now.  God is a vengeful and jealous God.  He will not be mocked and in the end, His wrath is something that I wouldn’t wish on anyone!(vs. 8-15)

We can take comfort in our Lord as we face the evil and wickedness being displayed and used on us.  Psalms 94:17-19,  17  Unless the Lord had helped me, I would soon have died. 18  I cried out, “I’m slipping!” and your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. 19  When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.(NLT)  Maybe you feel like you can’t take it any more, recognize that the unfailing love of the Lord is available to keep you from slipping into the depressed, angry, bitter, and vengeful heart of this world.  Trust Him to fill your mind with His comfort, renewed hope, and cheerful joy found in Him.  Psalms 94:22, 22  But the Lord is my fortress; my God is a mighty rock where I can hide. 23  God will make the sins of evil people fall back upon them. He will destroy them for their sins.  The Lord our God will destroy them.(NLT)  Allow God to be your Rock and Fortress, the One in which you can hide.  Trust that His vengeance will be righteous and holy, pray for the souls of man and put your hope and faith in the Lord today.

Father, today I have felt like I have had enough with this wicked world.  I long for You to come and take vengeance on the arrogant, pride-filled ignoramuses of this world.  I need You to adjust my thinking and help me to humbly trust in Your Righteousness and find my rest in the Rock of my salvation.  Thank You that You had patience with me and showed me Your mercy and grace.  May I allow for You to do the same with others knowing that You are a Righteous and Holy God and will not allow the wicked to go unpunished.  I put my trust in You and Your way today.  In Jesus Name, Amen!
