Hobart Herd Devotional – Proverbs 16 – 4-16-20

Today I couldn’t get past the truth of the first three verses in Proverbs 16.  “The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. 2  All the ways of man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirit. 3  Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

Yesterday I ate something that made me sick. Can’t blame it on anyone but myself as I was the cook.  It has wiped me out today and messed up all my plans to have my sermon and Power point slides ready to go so I can finalize everything for Saturday and record Sunday’s Service.  I had my week planned out.  It was a good plan, and a plan that my heart thought was from the Lord.  However, sometimes God’s plans are not my plans and His ways are higher than my ways.  I have not been able to concentrate today long enough to get much done on the message for Sunday.  So I am going home to take a nap and see what happens.  I have committed the work for Sunday to the Lord and He has never let me down.  His sermons are better then the ones I come up with.  His Word is faithful, and He will do it!

I need to be reminded that even the best laid plans of my heart done with right motives and good planning and right spirit may not be the plans of the Lord.  Sometimes it is the timing or the message that needs to be changed for God’s perfect plan to be done.  I need to make sure I commit every day to the Lord and trust that the interruptions and changes that happen in my day are Divine Opportunities from the Lord to trust in Him and His Plan!

Father, today I need Your healing touch and rest.  I know that I forget to commit my plans to You and allow You to lead and change them.  Forgive me for getting upset and bothered when things change, and plans fall through.  I do trust that Your ways and timing are better than mine.  Help to rest in You today.  In Jesus name, Amen!  Pastor Rob

Today I am reminded of a worship chorus:  In His time, In His time, He makes all things beautiful, In His time.  Lord please show me every day, as You’re teaching me Your way, that You do just what You say, In Your time!
