Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalms 8 – 5-5-20

One of my favorite worship choruses that we use to open our worship service is, O Lord Our Lord How Majestic is Your Name in All the Earth!  That song comes from Psalms 8 verses 1 & 9.  While the last 2 Psalms are cries of pain and prayer, this Psalm is a total Psalm of rejoicing and worship!  Sometimes when I get down about how things are going, all it takes is a fresh glimpse of my God and these songs spring into my mind.  I need to not let the things around me take my eyes off my Marvelous, Majestic Lord.

Have you ever used the saying, “out of the mouth of babes”?  In verse 2 we are reminded that God uses the words of the smallest children to express His power, strength and glory to us.  My wife was Face timing my 2 yrs. Old grandson and asked him, what was the little stick figure in his hand?  He answered back “Jees”, his word for Jesus as if “Ma” should be able to recognize Him.  Nothing greater then having my Grandchildren request that we “Sing God”, our song of prayer that we sing together at every meal with them.  They ask us to sing “Jees”, Jesus Loves Me, and then go and play their version on the piano to sing with them.  Oh the joy to know that they already think and sing of Him no matter how much they understand.  One of my favorite memories of having Levi over night on a Saturday night and then in the church service on Sunday, was watching him stand on the pew an sing at the top of his lungs with us in worship.  Even though he couldn’t know or sing the words, he was making a joyful noise of praise to the Lord.

Enough about my Grand Kids; I have to praise and worship the Lord for the beauty of His creation that surrounds me with His Glory!  Watching the vibrant colors of spring, seeing Mt. Rainier, watching the elk herd in the fields surrounding the church, watching a calf being born in those same fields, seeing the magnificent sunsets over the sky line to the west, I could go on but you understand.  Today I just want to worship God for Who He is, and marvel at the fact that in all His majestic Glory and handiwork, He stoops to love and save me.  Truly, “What is man, that Thou dost take thought of him? And the son of man, that Thou dost care for him?, Psalms 8:4.  May I never lose sight of Who He is and What He has done for me!

Father, I ask forgiveness for losing sight of Your majesty.  I get so caught up in the struggles of this life that I fail to see the beauty of Your creation and marvel at the fact that you love me and gave this all for me to see and worship You.  Thank you for the glimpse of You that we receive from the mouth and eyes of our children and grandchildren. Help me to allow Your word to refocus my heart and mind on You and worship You the way You created me to do.  Thank You, I Love You Lord!  In Jesus Name, Amen!  Pastor Rob
