Hobart Herd Devotional – Psalms 45 – 6-15-20

Normally this time of year is full of preparations and wedding celebrations.  This is a hard time as many have had to postpone their wedding plans and celebrations.  It is good to know that in this Psalm we find a wedding song for the king as he prepares for and looks forward to seeing his bride.  This Psalm is also a type of Christ and the expectation of the Marriage supper of the Lamb as the King of Kings receives His Bride, the Church, and the celebration of the ages takes place. Revelation 19:6-9, Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.”(ESV)  These words were written by John as He was led to describe our marriage as the Bride to the Great King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The first 9 verses describe the splendor and majesty of the King.  Here are some phrases that reveal that this is more than just a wedding for a king, but truly a description of our King, the Lord Jesus Christ!  “Grace poured upon His lips”; riding victoriously for “the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness”; “Your throne is forever and ever”; “God has anointed You with the oil of gladness beyond Your companions”; all of these describe the greatness of the Lord.

Verses 10-15 describe the pageantry of the queen, the bride as she prepares to make her entrance to the celebration.  She enters with all her beauty to honor her Groom with her wedding party.  What a picture of the beauty and splendor of this wedding and all the honor and glory that will be bestowed on our Lord as we bow to Him and bring Him all glory and honor as His pure and holy bride.  This is followed with a benediction of blessing upon the marriage and the sons and princes that will come from this union.  We will rule and reign with Him for all eternity and all the nations of the world will honor and glorify the Lord forever!

As I meditate on this great picture of glory and majesty, I am thrilled to think that I will get to be a part of the celebration of the marriage of the Lamb and His bride.  There is nothing more joyful than a celebration of love and union with the Lord.  I hope that you have this hope and assurance that one day we will join in celebration and union together with our Lord and Savior.

Father, thank You for this beautiful depiction of the wedding of a king that gives us the hope and assurance of the future celebration and glory of Heaven together.  I need to be reminded of the glory that we will share together in a time when everything looks so bad.  May I never lose sight of being with You and all Your glory.  In Jesus Name, Amen!  Pastor Rob
