Hobart Herd- Psalms 47 – 6-17-20
It is so wonderful to realize that God is in control! This Psalm is best understood as a celebration of the Lord taking His rightful place on the throne and ruling in the eternal kingdom of God. So while this Psalm celebrates the great majesty power and authority of our Lord as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, it should also remind us that God is truly a God to be feared and worshiped today.
While we celebrate the future of our Lord and King, we are also able to celebrate and worship with loud shouts of joy because we know that our King and His Kingdom is there for us today. He is allowing this world to have a choice to receive their Savior and Lord(2 Peter 3:9), realizing that many will rebel against Him. But He is not willing that any should perish and gives opportunity for His grace and forgiveness to bring “who so ever will” into His family and kingdom forever. Our worship services should be an opportunity to praise, worship, glorify and celebrate what the Lord has done for us, what He is doing now, and what He will do when He comes again.
Psalms 47:8, 8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. 9 The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!(ESV) God truly reigns, sits, and shields of which I am eternally thankful. This Psalm may specifically picture the reign of His believing people of Israel, but I am reminded that I (we) have been grafted in by faith and trust in the saving grace of our Lord, Savior and King, Jesus Christ. We are the adopted ones and we will be included in His eternal kingdom. In our world today it is great to trust in the God who shields the earth and holds us all in the palms of His hand.
Father, today I celebrate Your victorious King and Kingdom. My heart swells with joy at the salvations You have provided me. May I never lose sight of the truth of Who You are and Your promise given to Your people of ruling, reigning and rejoicing in Your presence for all eternity! In Jesus Name, Amen! Pastor Rob
